A virgin to conceive, a sign given by the Lord of the one who was to become the Savior of Israel and all mankind. Throughout the history of the Old Testament the Lord chose a variety of ways to make Himself and His will known to men. From dreams to personal visitations were used by the Lord that men might come to know of His being.
